Plans & pricing

We offer four different pricing plans (from free to enterprise). Here, we'll walk through each one and what it means to upgrade or downgrade your workspace. For an in-depth guide to billing & payment processing, go here. We've also included an extensive FAQ at the bottom of this article.
👉
Note: You can have multiple workspaces per account. Each of your workspaces can be on a different plan, and you are billed per workspace.

Plan options

Each paid plan comes with a distinct set of features. It's possible to use Notion for free indefinitely, depending on your use case and with certain limitations. Here's a rundown:

Upgrade your workspace (desktop only)

  • Near the top of your sidebar, you'll see Settings & Members. Click on it to bring up your settings window. From there, click on Plans (or Upgrade if you're on a Free Plan).
  • Click the Upgrade button under the plan you want.
  • If you're upgrading from the free Personal Plan, a window will pop up to ask for your billing interval and payment information to get you started.
notion imagenotion image

  • Picking the yearly billing interval saves you 20%. The total cost of your plan will display in the bottom left-hand corner of this window. It's calculated based on how many members are in the workspace, if you have any credit to apply, etc.

  • Pick your payment method. You can either pay with a debit or credit card, ACH (direct deposit), or wire transfer. Notion uses Stripe to process payments.

  • Once we've processed your payment, you'll be moved to the Billing tab of your settings, where you'll see your plan summarized:
notion imagenotion image

  • If you upgrade or choose a more expensive plan in the middle of a billing interval, here's what will happen:
    • You'll receive a bill at the end of the month (even if you're on a yearly plan), charging you a prorated amount based on how long you were using the upgraded version of Notion.
    • This amount will be added to your standard payment for the month ahead (if you're paying monthly) or added to the revised amount for the rest of the year (if you're paying yearly).
    • We determine "end of month" based on the day you signed up. So even if you're paying yearly, if you purchased your plan on June 17 and upgraded on June 23, you'd see the new charges on July 17.
    • This can be complicated, we know 😅so please don't hesitate to reach out with questions!

Downgrade your workspace

Just like you can upgrade your workspace's plan at any time, you can also downgrade.
  • Go to Settings & Members and click on Plans in the sidebar of the new window.
  • To choose a less expensive paid plan, click the Downgrade button under the plan you want to choose.
  • When you downgrade to a free Personal Plan, your paid plan will be cancelled at the end of your billing interval. You'll be able to enjoy your paid features until then.
  • When you downgrade to a less expensive paid plan, a few things will happen:
    • We'll change your available features immediately.
    • At the end of the next month (even if you're on a yearly plan), we'll credit your account a prorated amount based on how long you've been on the less expensive plan and the difference in cost. I.e. you'll get credit back for features you weren't able to use.
    • On the same day, you'll also get a bill for the interval to come, adjusted for your new plan. The credit you get back will be applied toward this charge.
    • We determine "end of month" based on the day you signed up. So even if you're paying yearly, if you purchased your plan on June 17 and upgraded on June 23, you'd see this credit on July 17.
  • At any time, you can see a summary of your billing information and make changes in the Billing tab of Settings & Members. If you have more questions about how billing works, check out this comprehensive guide.

FAQs

How is the free Personal Plan different from the Personal Pro and Team plans?
The Personal Pro Plan includes some extra features like version history and larger file uploads, and you can invite an unlimited number of guests to specific pages in your workspace (the free Personal Plan only includes 5 guests).
The Team Plan supports additional members, so multiple people can share a collaborative workspace together.

What is a block?
A block is any single piece of content you add to your page, like a to-do item, an image, a code block, an embedded file, etc. Think of your page as being made up of these building blocks. Text also counts as blocks, but not every single line. Consider every paragraph or discrete snippet of text a block.
The only plan that has a limit on how many blocks you can add is the Team Plan trial. You can test out the Team Plan for free, with no time limit. You'll have 1,000 content blocks to work with before deciding whether or not to upgrade.

Can I use Notion for free?
Absolutely! Notion is completely free to use indefinitely.

Does Notion offer student discounts?
Notion Personal Pro Plans are free for students and educators! Simply sign up with your school email address and you'll immediately gain access to those features.
If you're already on a Personal Plan, change the email associated with your account to your school email address to get it for free. Much more on this here →

How do I earn credit?
You can earn credit by completing certain actions: logging in on the web, logging in on the desktop app, logging in on the mobile app, importing your data from Evernote, and using Web Clipper on desktop and mobile. You'll find these options in the Earn Credit section of Settings & Members in the left-hand sidebar.
Our referral program is discontinued as Apr 28, 2020. Any existing referrals (including pending ones) will still be honored.

How do I apply credit to my workspace?
To apply credit, you must first upgrade to a paid plan. As part of this process, you can choose to apply some or all of your account credit to the plan.
We still require your billing information, even if you applied enough credit to make your first bill $0. This is because you may run out of credit in the future and we need to be able to charge your account.

What are the admin tools in the Team Plan and Enterprise Plan?
On the Team Plan and Enterprise Plan, the admin tools let you limit the admin rights to specific people only, so that only admins can change billing information, add more teammates, or change important workspace settings.
The Personal Plan and Pro Plan are only for individuals, where admin tools do not apply.

How is pricing calculated for the Personal Pro Plan?
If you upgrade your workspace to the Personal Pro Plan, you'll be charged a flat fee — $5 if you pay monthly or $48 for the whole year if you pay yearly ($4 per month).
Guests are free of charge, but they won't be able to access all your workspace pages, only the ones they've been invited to.

How is pricing calculated for the Team Plan?
If you upgrade your workspace to the Team Plan, you'll be charged a fee per member ($10 each month if you pay monthly or $96 upfront if you choose to pay yearly). For example, if you pay per month and have 5 members, you'll be charged $50 each month.
Guests are free of charge, but they can only access individual pages they're invited to join. In other words, guests won't be able to see all the team pages in the Workspace section of your sidebar.

Do you have monthly and yearly billing options?
Yes! We offer either monthly or yearly billing options. The yearly billing option is always cheaper (close to a 20% discount). For example, the Team Plan is $10 per member per month if you pay monthly, but $8 per member per month if you pay yearly.

How does adding and removing members work?
Whether you're paying monthly or yearly, your account can be charged on a monthly basis if you add members. Your account will be charged a prorated amount at the month mark based on the percentage of the billing cycle left at the time each member was added. If your usage decreased, your account will be credited in the same way.

What happens when I change plans?
Upgrading or downgrading your plan works similarly to adding and removing members. Your account will be charged or credited based on the percentage of the billing cycle left at the time the plan was changed.

What happens if I cancel my paid plan?
When you cancel your plan, you'll remain on the plan until the end of your billing interval with full access to your previous plan's features. They'll shut off at the end of the interval.

What happens if my payment fails? (E.g. my credit card expired.)
We'll send an email to the address associated with your account after each failed payment. Payment may be retried up to 4 times within the next month. After this, if the payment did not succeed, you will be downgraded to a Free Plan.

Can I change my payment method?
You can change your payment method at any time in Settings & MembersBilling.

Do you offer refunds?
We don't offer refunds, however we do have an account credit system. If your plan is downgraded (or if you've subtracted members) during your billing period, your account will be credited accordingly. The next time your account is charged, any remaining balance will be used before we charge you again.

Do you have a Service-Level Agreement (SLA)?
We do not offer a standard SLA. For teams with more than 100 members, we can offer a custom SLA. Please contact us for details.

How is my payment processed?
We use Stripe to process your payment. It's the same payment provider used by products like Twitter, Pinterest, and Lyft. We do not handle your credit card information directly.

Does Notion support multiple teams?
Yes! You can use the same email address to create or join additional workspaces for different teams. However, each workspace will have to be upgraded individually. You can keep different teams in the same workspace by grouping members into within a single workspace and assigning them different permissions.

Can I change my plan settings on mobile?
No, you can only make modifications to your Notion plan on desktop or web.
