Editorial Calendar

Are you hacking your editorial calendar together in a basic calendar or in a spreadsheet? Or maybe you find yourself copy-pasting Google Docs or having to track down where that piece of content lives in the first place?
With Notion, you can visualize all the content coming down the pipeline without losing out on all the context tied with each piece.
And best of all, you can write your content, include notes, or embed multimedia all in one place without having to link off to a separate document.
Give this template a try or keep scrolling to learn how to make it happen yourself!

Step 1: Create a database to get started

First order of business - let's create a database that'll house your editorial calendar. You can add one in by clicking the [+] button on a new line in the editor and selecting 'Calendar - Inline.'

Step 2: Add your content into the calendar

Click the [+] button on any of the dates to start adding in your content into the calendar.
A newly created page for that piece of content will open up where you can go ahead and give it a name and add in some tags (e.g. Podcast, Interview, Blog Post).

Step 3: Add authors and other properties

Let's enrich our editorial calendar by adding in the authors and the current status of the content.
Click 'Add a Property,' type in 'Author' and select the 'Person' property type. This'll then allow you to define who in your workspace is in charge of this specific piece of content.
You can also add in different types of properties to your content pages as well like the 'Select' property, which'll allow you to define the latest status of the content (e.g. Scheduled, In Progress, Completed).

Step 4: Write content or include notes directly in the calendar

Click below the comment area to begin adding in any notes or to write the content itself. This is where you can also include images, videos, or audio files. No need to link to a separate document - you can do it all directly in Notion.
You can also add in formatting (headers, dividers, lists) to accentuate whatever it is you'd like to include here. Just click the [+] button in the editor to see a list of all the different types of content you can add to this page.

Step 5: Tailor the calendar view to your liking

To give your calendar your unique touch, go ahead and adjust which properties are visible directly on the calendar.
Click 'Properties' and toggle on which properties you'd like to have visible on the content themselves.

Step 6: Add a board view to see your content by status

Since we've gone ahead and added what the latest status of each piece of content is, it'd be helpful to see where everything sits in the editorial pipeline.
Let's go ahead and add a board view to complement the editorial calendar. Click '+ Add a View,' give it a name, and select the board option as the view type.
Once you've created your new board view, drag-and-drop the different columns so that you've got everything set up the right way.

Step 7: Stay up to date with page updates

Any page in Notion can be subscribed to - meaning that you'll receive a notification whenever a change has been made to that particular page.
You can subscribe to a page via the 'Updates' dropdown in the top right. This is where you can also check out the thread of all recent edits in the calendar as well.
You can collectively see all the edits made on pages you follow in the 'Followed' tab within 'All-Updates' in your left-sidebar.
