Hi! I am Olith, the President of COINTREE Sri Lanka Academy.
I lived in a poor village, but now I manage a school where poor children can come. My next dream is to build a special school for special children.
Let me start my story!
When I was 11,
I met the CEO of COINTREE, Han, Youngjun (Han), who was visiting Sri Lanka. He taught me English and math, became my sponsor, and helped me get a university education.
In Sri Lanka, there are so many schools with neither walls nor ceilings, making it impossible to study on rainy days. In particular, special children in poverty do not have special schools to attend or appropriate transport. This makes it more and more difficult to lift children out of poverty.
Education totally changed my life.
Watching children in poverty always reminded me of my past, and I always wanted to help them.
As I was able to go to university and became a leader in town with HAN's help, I wanted to give hope and future to the special children in Sri Lanka. So I became the principal of COINTREE Sri Lanka Academy where anyone can come and learn.

Special children have problems because they do not have customized studying materials and school buildings. We believe that these barriers should not be the reason children would not be able to study.

Why there are so many special children in Sri Lanka?
In 2004, Tsunamis spawned by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake swept across Sri Lanka. As an island nation, 50% of the country has been badly destroyed and poor areas have not yet been reclaimed. Due to the tsunami and the 26-year civil war, children could not have a proper meal, which led to famine and malnutrition.
Moreover, poor children had no chance of going to hospital when they suffered from illness or were accidentally damaged. Medically neglected children could not help suffering with disabilities for their entire lives.
What does COINTREE do?
In 2018, we opened 'COINTREE Academy' in Sri Lanka.
In 2019, we started class for special children.
Today, there are 27 children in class with hearing difficulties, as well as 6 children with developmental difficulties. They take specialized courses and guidance. COINTREE provides transport (for a fee) and meals twice a week to help them attend a class.
BUT, there is a HUGE problem.
There is no school 'building' for special children.
Special children needs OWN school.
We need a special children's OWN school building.
Currently, they share buildings at the COINTREE Academy or the local school.
Stationery or typical buildings may threaten special children. We are always concerned about safety issues.
Also, special kids get emotionally injured and intimidated by taking a class in other school. They walk on eggshells. Some even hesitate whether to come to school or not.
There are still many special children who cannot attend school.

How will my gift help special children?
Every child has the right of education. Special school for special children can support;
- up to 60 special kids to attend school with 5 experienced teachers.
- special students to become emotionally stable in an environment where classes only exist for them.
- facilities tailored to our special children, which help them stay safe.
- class to improve the quality and the efficiency of education.
- sustainable education and vocational training, which leads special children to self-reliance.
Our goal with special children is "HELP CHILDREN HELP THEMSELVES.". COINTREE aims to help more than 50% of our special school students find employment, earn a living and build a better life for themselves.
Budget Plan for COINTREE Special School in Sri Lanka
There is something you can discover when you live in poverty; hunger, lack of learning and limitations.
I do know one thing, though. If someone helps, I can learn and my life can change.
We believe that poverty is hopelessness when we are not able be educated. However, if we start to learn, despair can turn into an aspiration such as “I will make a better world.”

Hi! We are an international NGO, COINTREE, which was launched in South Korea. We believe that every child has the right to be HAPPY with education and medical support.
Our attractive leader, Youngjun Han went to Bolivia in 2014 and started to build a school by himself for poor children. Our first school,'Hope Flower School' in Bolivia became the seed of COINTREE.
Since then, COINTREE has worldwide provided primary education, supported medical assistance and responded to emergencies such as COVID-19. Most recently, we have focused our humanitarian aid on Bolivia, Sri Lanka and Mexico.
Now, Han works in COINTREE Mexico since 2018. He runs a school, distributes necessities to our beneficiaries and prepares to build a 'Love Flower Hospital' for the children in poor areas.
9,000 people got education, medical care and emergency kits in 2020.
