딸이 3.1절로 방학을 마칩니다.
긴 겨울방학이었습니다. 거진 두 달여. 사정상 일정상 어딜 가 보지도 못했네요. 아쉽지만 아빠는 그 겨우내 한 해 농사를 짓기 위한 씨앗을 무던히도 열심히 키워 심었습니다. 알아주길 바랄 순 없겠지만, 아빠는 애 썼단다. 그래도 그 덕에 반 년 일정이 빼곡히 잡힌 듯합니다.
방학 내내 주로 도서관에 다녔습니다. 제가 사는 의정부는 명색이 도서관 도시를 표방하는 곳입니다. 그래서 특색 있는 도서관들이 이곳 저곳 있습니다. 미술 도서관, 과학 도서관,정보 도서관, 음악 도서관… 그 가운데에 과학 도서관과 미술 도서관을 제법 자주 다녔습니다. 아이는 책을 가져와 읽고, 아빠는 책 읽다가 글 쓰다가 하고, 엄마는 만화를 그리면서 같은 테이블에서 수 시간을 앉아 있는 겁니다. 아이가 학교에 가지 않는 상황에서 글쟁이가 글을 쓰기란 정말 쉽지 않은데, 도서관에 데려가서 마실 것 하나 사 주고 책 읽게 하고 학습지 시키고 그림 그리게 하면 일할 시간을 벌어주니 얼마나 다행이었나 모릅니다. 아이가 이 시간을 즐겁게 생각해주면 좋을 텐데, 그건 부모의 생각일 뿐이겠지요. 그저 그게 최선이었습니다.
정보 도서관은 너무 멀고, 음악 도서관은 주차 공간이 너무 협소해서 과학 도서관과 미술 도서관 쪽을 주로 갔습니다. 과학 도서관은 주차 요금이 발생해서 좀 아쉬운데, 미술 도서관은 주차가 무료입니다. 과학 도서관은 1시간 정도 걸으면 닿기도 해서 가끔은 하이킹 삼아서 걸어서 가기도 했지요. 아빠 짐이 10kg쯤 되는 게 난감하지만요. 주차 요금 없는 미술 도서관은 체험 프로그램과 미술 전시회 등도 열리고 카페도 있어서 이래저래 저희에겐 최선이었습니다. 분위기도 좋은데, 그 말인즉 좋은 걸 알아본 부모와 아이들이 꽉꽉 들어차 있다는 이야기기도 합니다. 정말 책상 차지하기 위한 눈치 싸움이 어마어마했습니다.
도서관만으로는 아쉬울 때엔 카페에 갑니다. 중랑천변에 자리한 호원동의 카페 조금 느린집은 봄이가 아직 뱃속에 있을 때부터 다녔던 곳입니다. 사장님네가 봄이를 참 귀여워해주시기도 하지만, 봄이와 함께 나이를 먹고 있는 곳이기도 하지요. 마치 삼촌이 계신 것 같습니다. 봄이는 이곳에 가서 역시 엄마 아빠 일하는 모습을 보며 자기 공부와 독서를 합니다.
이번 겨울 방학이 아쉽다면 아쉽지만, 그래도 다행인 건 그 경험들 속에서 책 읽기와 공부라는 루틴을 새겼다는 점입니다. 학습지 태블릿으로 공부하고 코딩을 하는데, 다행히도 코딩을 참 재밌어 해서 코딩을 하기 위해서라도 오늘치 공부를 꼬박꼬박 안 밀리고 하는 게 대견했습니다. 그렇게 공부를 이어서 하지만 한편으로는 수학이 좀 약해서 문제를 따로 내 주어가면서 대비를 시켰습니다. 방학 후반에는 simply piano라는 앱으로 피아노를 시키기 시작했습니다. 학원을 보내는 게 나았겠지만, 학원 뺑뺑이가 나을지 자기 시간을 자기가 루틴 속에서 보내는 게 나을지를 고민하다 가격 대비 성능비를 생각해서 결정했는데 무척이나 잘 따라옵니다.
그래서 봄이는 방학 중에 아침 TV 시청으로 시작해 수학 공부와 피아노, 독서, 학습지, 코딩이라는 루틴을 꾸준히 진행했습니다. 장소가 집일 때도 있고 아닐 때도 있을 뿐이죠. 그 과정을 따라와 준 봄이 덕에 한시름 놓고 새 학년을 맞이합니다. 어쩔 수 없이 업무가 더뎠지만, 그래도 그만큼 많이 함께 있었어요. 이제 새학기, 다시 학교에서 보내게 될 시간들이 아이에게 그저 즐겁기만 하기를. 좋은 인연들만 다가오기를. 악당이 없기를.
