Most teams resort to dropping in an interesting article or video in Slack to only have it snowed under with a steady stream of messages.
Create a central list of interesting reads where the entire team can drop in articles, refer back to, and comment on whenever they have a spare moment.
Give the template a go when you create a page or keep reading to learn how it works!
Step 1: Create a table to get started
Let's start things off by creating a database that'll house the reading list. You can add one with a simple slash command (/) or by clicking the [+] button on a new line in the editor by selecting 'Table.'
Step 2: Add custom properties to create a scannable overview
Go ahead and define some properties that we want to track for all of the interesting resources we want to store in the database. This'll make finding things a whole lot easier down the line.
Let's add in the following properties:
- URL: link to the article, video, or podcast
- Multi-Select: create different categories of topics (e.g. pricing, distribution, analytics)
- Text: add a short description
Step 3: Add links to articles, videos, and podcasts
Now let's start making this all a bit more concrete by adding in a few interesting things you've come across lately.
If a custom tag doesn't exist for any of the articles just yet, make sure to create a new one so that everyone can easily scan the list.
Step 4: Share your thoughts and opinions with others
Interested in adding in your notes or sharing your takeaways on any of the readings?
Step inside one of the unique pages created for each item in the reading list by clicking on the [⤢] button next to a resource's name.
Once you're in - you can link to other related articles, jot down your impressions in list form, or @ mention one of your colleagues to pull them into the conversation.
Just click the [+] button when you're on a new line in the editor to make it happen.
Step 5: Follow along as new readings are added to the list
If you'd like to receive notifications whenever something is added to the reading list, just open up 'Updates' in the top-right and toggle on that you'd like to follow updates.
Once you're subscribed, 'All Updates' in the left-sidebar will be bolded whenever a change has been made to the reading list. The 'Followed' tab will contain all the latest changes on pages you follow.
It's also possible to follow a unique reading's page as well through the 'Updates' dropdown.
Step 6: Filter resources or quick search by tags
The list of resources can really expand over time. You've got a couple ways to quickly scan the list.
For one - try giving search a try to instantly scan the different properties.
You can also throw in a filter to only show resources that fit a specific tag you have in mind (e.g. marketing, UX). Just click 'filter' and select which properties you want to hone in on.
