You can play audio content directly on your Notion pages with embedded audio players. Use them for songs, playlists, podcasts, recorded instructions, or any other audio needs.
Notion supports embeds from a variety of streaming services, including Spotify and SoundCloud. For instance, here's how an embedded Spotify playlist looks:
 
 
For your own recordings, you can upload an audio file, and we'll generate a player for you that looks like this:
 

Add an audio embed

Anywhere on your Notion page, you can add audio from most streaming platforms in two ways:

Create an audio block

  • Click the + that appears to the left when you hover over a new line. Choose Audio.
  • You can also type /audio and press enter.
  • In the menu that appears, select Embed Link, and paste the URL for the track or playlist from your streaming service.

Turn a URL into an audio embed

  • On a new line, paste the track or playlist's URL from the streaming service.
  • In the menu that appears, choose Create Embed.

Add your own audio file

For your own recordings, you can use our custom player to upload and play MP3, MP4, WAV and OGG files. Add this player in two ways:

Create an audio block

  • Click the + that appears to the left when you hover over a new line. Choose Audio and press enter.
  • You can also type /audio and press enter.
  • In the menu that appears, select Upload, and choose your audio file.

Drag-and-drop

  • You can also drag your audio file into a Notion page from your desktop or a folder on your computer. Notion will automatically convert it to our custom audio player.

Resize audio player

You can adjust the height and width of audio embeds and players to suit their contents and the style of your Notion page.
  • Hover over your audio embed, then drag the black bars that appear on the sides and corners.

Arrange audio players

  • Use drag-and-drop to move audio blocks around your page.
  • Hover over your player, then use the ⋮⋮ icon that appears as a handle to drag it.
  • You can also drag and drop audio players into columns.

Add a caption

Captions can help you provide more context about your audio.
  • Hover over the player and click ⋮⋮ on the left.
  • Select Caption and enter whatever text you want.
  • You can format your caption with bold, italics, colors and other styles available for standard text in Notion.

Add a comment

You can leave a comment on an audio player, just like any other type of content block:
  • Hover over the player and click ⋮⋮ on the left.
  • Select Comment, and enter whatever you have to say or ask about the audio.
  • You can also select the player and use the shortcut cmd/ctrl + m.

Tip: Tag your workspace collaborators with @ to notify them of comments intended for them specifically.

Expand your audio player to full screen

This is particularly useful for playlists, allowing you to view more songs at once.
  • Hover over the streaming player and click ••• at the top right or ⋮⋮ on the left.
  • Select Full Screen.

Replace your audio

If you make updates to an audio recording, you'll want to replace the file on your Notion page:
  • Hover over the player and click ⋮⋮ on the left.
  • Choose Replace.
  • Upload the new file.

Note: If the content of an embed changes at its source, it will change in Notion too.

Delete an audio player

  • Hover over your audio player and click ⋮⋮ on the left. Or right click on it.
  • Choose Delete.

FAQs

I tried to upload an audio file, but got an error message.
An error message is displayed when you try to upload an audio file that's in a format that Notion doesn't support. We do support audio formats such as .mp3 and .wav.
 
Can I use Notion to record audio or voice notes?
Not at the moment, but we've had a few other users ask about that too. If you'd like us to further prioritize this on our roadmap, send us a message or tweet at us with your vote 📮
 
Is there a limit on the size of audio file I can upload?
On Free Plans, the limit is 5MB. For paid plans, there's no limit!
